2016 ABPC 285

In 2016 ABPC 285, Mr. J pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his sixteen year-old step-daughter, Ms. L. He had been acting as her father figure since she was 3 years old. He began sexually touching her when she was 16 after she fell asleep in his and her mother’s bed. Following, there were 15 other assaults of this nature before Ms. L reported them to her mother. Mr. J had also been charged with sexual exploitation but this charge was stayed.

Although Mr. J turned himself in and was remorseful, a conditional sentence was denied given that the assaults were repeated, continuous, in the youth’s home, he was in a parental position for so many years of her life, and she was the one who stopped it.

Mr. J was sentenced to 6 months incarceration.
