ONTARIO:

2011 ONSC 7719

In 2011 ONSC 7719, the Court rejected the Crown’s application to submit an expert report into evidence against Mr. MP who faced 31 charges of human trafficking under s. 279 of the Criminal Code, which involved four complainants. The report was intended to show that MP targeted socieconomically vulnerable victims and then used psychological manipulation and coercion to control them. It was alleged that between 2004 and 2008 MP established sexual relationships with 4 women whose ages were between 17 and 24, all of whom were poor and estranged from their families. He was accused of using those relationships to convince the young women to sell sexual services at a strip club he frequented and of posting advertisements for one victim on adult websites and other internet advertising platforms.
